L'chaim Chabad Hosts Purim Celebrations Throughout Manchester
Purim only takes up one day on the calendar, but the energy at the L’Chaim-Chabad Purim events throughout the city was enough to last an entire year. There was something for everyone - no matter one’s age
background or affiliation.
The community at Heaton Park Shul enjoyed a sold out Purim Bingo evening, with 120 people partaking of good food and fantastic prizes. The Megillah was read and pre-packaged mishloach manos were handed out for participants to give to friends the next day.
Yeshivas Lubavitch Manchester students and Volunteers visitedthousands of homes, businesses and institutions to reading the Megillah, deliver mishloach manos and share the festive spirit. Hundreds
of seniors and hospital patients were thankful for the opportunity to celebrate the holiday in style, including the 100 seniors in attendance at the Heathlands Village party. The Mitzvah Tank was also on hand to take Purim to the Warth Business Centre, where the Jewish men and women of Bury were able to fulfill all four Purim Mitzvos in less than 45 minutes.
L’Chaim’s CTeen, JLI, Chavrusa Programme, Jewish Women's Circleall joined for a fantastic family-friendly Purim bash at the JS restaurant. To go along with the Megillah reading, open bar, music and dancing, an
interactive multimedia game of Hang-Ha-Man Live made the evening unforgettable.
Rapper Ari Lesser entertained primary school children from King David and BWJPS at a Purim-Hakhel concert, while volunteers went to numerous high schools across the city to read the Megillah for teens. CTeen enjoyed their own Purim bash with live music, a gourmet Chinese dinner, and a show by comedian hypnotist Adam Night.

The Megillah was read 19 times every hour, on the hour at nearby Beis Menachem. Crowds came from all sections of the community from ultra-Orthodox to completely secular. Many of the readings attracted well over 100 people. “In all, well over 1,600 heard the megillah there. They ranged from small children to teenagers and adults and many were dressed in Purim outfits. A special entertainment programme was put on for the young ones.”
As always, L'chaim Chabad together with the unmatched enthusiasm of the students from Yeshivas Lubavitch Manchester brought the joy, meaning and traditions of Purim to every Jew in the greater Manchester region.
